The History of All Histories ...

1963 Type 1 Beetle - AKA: Eleanor

For the past several years, I have really be contemplating getting another VW (of any type) to have and to hold. Call it a mid-life crisis or whatever else. Money just hasn't been there and the possibilities just haven't presented themselves.

Over the course of the past 3 years, my wife has occasionally looked on Facebook Marketplace at various VWs. With my sister "inheriting" PJ back from the family mechanic, I was jealous as all hell and started looking for my own VW. My wife occasionally would show me a few that she had seen but I have never thought that much of it. I just figured I would drool and move on.

In May, I had a significant medical issue that scared us all. Stress, improper eating, and an overall unhealthy lifestyle led me to that point. I had a difficult time dealing with my circumstances, just because I knew I was to blame.

One night, while sitting on the couch, my wife showed me a handful of VWs and said, "I want to buy you a VW. You need a project you are passionate about that will assist you with positive handling of stress." I was floored. The next thing I knew, we were one town over and talking with a guy that had several VWs that were sitting in his driveway. His wife had told him that he had too many projects going on and needed to lose the Bug.

With that, Eleanor was on the back of a tow truck and we were headed to a "foster home" with our new baby.
