The History of All Histories ...

1966 Type 1 Beetle - AKA: Nameless

I do not recall when we actually purchased the 1966 Beetle. It may have come around prior to PJ, but I'm just not sure. I do remember it while I was in middle school. For the most part, this car was driven by my mom. However, when my older sister started driving, this little Bug carried her around town.

Sis was a sly one. Like any honest kid, she liked to go out and have fun but didn't want to leave a bread crumb trail. We had CB radios in our cars and at the house and she enjoyed meeting up with her CB buddies. To accomplish this, she would disconnect the speedometer cable. I know of at least one occasion when she got pulled over, presumably for speeding. She convinced the cop that a garden hose she was carrying in the trunk had miraculously managed to unscrew and pull the cable out of the speedometer. Let's be real...Anyone who has these knows that a slight tug is not going to disconnect these. But, good on her for getting away with it! lol

Unfortunately, we received a call on the CB one evening from my sister, informing us that she had been involved in a collision. Thankfully she was okay, but it did a fair amount of damage to the Bug. I do not know if the collision prompted the purchase of another car, but I do not recall the 1966 staying with us after that.
